Roughly half the time. The 60 mm cube that takes 3.95 hours through a 0.4 mm nozzle at 0.2 mm layers takes 1.93 hours through a 0.6 mm nozzle at 0.3 mm layers.
The comparison has to include the layer height, because that is half the point. Nobody fits a 0.6 mm nozzle to keep printing 0.2 mm layers.

Line width and layer height multiply together into flow, and the raised ceiling is what lets you actually use it. Turning up the speed on a 0.4 mm nozzle gives you one of those three and runs into the ceiling almost immediately.
The material goes up, not down
The larger nozzle extrudes 63,409 mm³ into the same cube against 57,824 mm³ — about a tenth more plastic, because every wall and skin line is thicker.
That is a genuine trade, not a hidden cost. Thicker walls on a functional part are usually a strength gain, and the machine-time saving is worth far more than the extra grams.
What you give up
Resolution, and specifically:
- Fine text and embossed detail below about a millimetre stops resolving
- Thin walls under 0.6 mm cannot be printed at all
- Small holes come out further from nominal, because a single 0.68 mm line has to negotiate a tighter curve
- Layer lines at 0.45 mm are unmistakable from across a room
Who should fit one
Anyone printing functional parts, jigs, brackets, enclosures, or anything large. Anyone running filled or abrasive filament, where a bigger orifice clogs less.
Anyone printing miniatures should not. The right answer for most people is to own both and treat nozzle size as a per-job setting rather than a machine configuration.
One caution before swapping: every published profile you will find assumes 0.4 mm, so a 0.6 mm nozzle means re-tuning flow, retraction and first-layer height rather than reusing settings. That work is a one-off, and it is the reason people who own the nozzle often never fit it.
