230 to 260 °C nozzle, 90 to 110 °C bed. Both of those matter less than a third number nobody puts on a spool label: the temperature of the air around the part.
Chamber temperature is the real setting
ABS contracts 0.4 to 0.8% as it cools. If the top of a part cools faster than the bottom — which is what happens in open room air — the top contracts against a base still welded to the plate, and the part either lifts at the corners or splits along a layer line.
Warm, still air slows that gradient down. This is why the material data on this site records an enclosure as required for ABS rather than helpful, and why an open-frame machine in a cold garage will fail at ABS whatever the nozzle is set to.
Part cooling follows the same logic: turn the fan down or off. Every instinct built up on PLA is wrong here.
Within the nozzle band
The band is narrower in practice than it looks. Below about 240 °C, layer bonding in a warm chamber is noticeably weaker; at the very top of the range, ABS begins to discolour and the styrene smell intensifies.
The high end is worth using for parts that will be loaded, because ABS's strength advantage over PLA lives entirely in layer adhesion and the chamber is doing half of that work already.
The bed and the first layer
90 to 110 °C, at the top of that range for anything large. A brim is close to mandatory on parts with a small footprint, and many people run an adhesive layer as well.
If corners lift on a big part despite a hot bed, the bed is not the problem — the air above it is.
Ventilation is a genuine requirement
ABS emits styrene and ultrafine particles while printing. An enclosure that keeps the heat in also keeps the fumes in, which is fine until you open it. Print in a ventilated space, and prefer a filtered enclosure or an extracted one for a machine that runs indoors.
That is a health consideration rather than a print-quality one, and it is the reason many people choose ASA or PETG instead.
